Carole Sutherland has owned Metro Deli and Cafe in south Fort Myers since 2004. “My parents were in the food business up north,” she said. “I went to school to be a nurse and decided I liked food better.”

After moving to Southwest Florida from Arlington, Massachusetts with her husband 37 years ago, she worked in local restaurants before deciding to take the leap and start a restaurant of her own.

At Metro Deli she serves her signature breakfast and lunch dishes — she’s best known for her tomato bisque and chicken salad — Monday through Friday.
